Pope Francis praises UAE's policy of tolerance


Vatican, Jan 16 (WAM) : Pope Francis praised the policy of tolerance pursued by the wise leadership of the UAE in promoting the values of tolerance, compassion and cooperation.

The statement was issued during the official visit of Dr. Hessa Abdullah Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to Spain, at the invitation of His Holiness Pope Francis for the annual meeting of the diplomatic corps accredited by the Holy See.

Pope Francis stressed that the open and tolerant policy pursued by the wise leadership of the UAE is considered a role model, and stems from the tolerance and respect for others and the freedom to practice religion.

Dr. Al Otaiba conveyed to his holiness the greetings of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

She stressed the strong ties between the two countries, and the important role assumed by Pope Francis in calling upon governments and people to work to promote peace and tolerance.

She also met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Head of the Vatican Government, and conveyed to him the greetings of the UAE leadership.

The International Religious Foundations and watch groups have given high grading for UAE for their high religious tolerance and humanitarian services undertaken by the great rulers of UAE, where people of 200 nationalities are living in peace. Now, Pope Francis is repeating that truth; he will be visiting UAE to receive big red carpet welcome.
