Kalaburagi, Feb 20: In a horrific incident which occurred at Kotanur (D) Tanda in the outskirts of the city on Saturday, February 18 evening, a 47-year-old man raped and murdered a minor and then committed suicide by hanging himself.

Suneeta Hemchand (17) was the victim of this rape. Vijay Kumar Rathod (47), who was the culprit, resorted to end his life too thereafter by hanging after committing the heinous crime.

Suneeta, whose father is no more, was living with mother at Kotanur Tanda. Vijay Kumar happened to be a distant relative of Suneeta. Vijay was married and had been working for KSRTC in the past. However, he had recently stopped working and had also distanced from his wife. Being a distant relative, Suneeta knew him and therefore he used to visit her family now and then.

Suneeta had returned from college on Saturday evening. Just then, Vijay barged into her house, raped her and then asphyxiated her to death by holding her veil tightly around her neck. He then hanged himself from the roof beams of Suneeta's house.

The incident came to light when Suneeta's mother came back home from work at night. A case about the incident was filed in the town police station here relating to this incident.
