GFP president Prabhakar Timble resigns

Panaji, Mar 13 (TOI): Prabhakar Timble resigned as president of the Goa Forward Party (GFP) on Sunday evening, after the party's three elected MLAs, led by Vijai Sardesai, extended direct support to the BJP to form the next government in Goa.

The party had gone hammer and tongs against the BJP in the run up to the 2017 assembly elections.

"I do not desire to embarrass anybody by recording reasons for the sudden decision," Timble said, in his resignation.

Timble added that he does not want to be the face of the party anymore, though he will still be associated with it.

GFP faced social media outrage after it decided to join hands with BJP, with supporters from Fatorda, Saligao, Siolim expressing discontent.

Goa and Northeast elected representatives will do anything for power. For them the promises made to the electorate, the party that promoted them to the stature they enjoy, and ethics are least in their mind. It is just "make hay while the sun shines" that matters. Prabhakar Timble's resignation is only a political stunt. Why did he select such persons who would defect and forget the electoral promises? He should have asked for their disqualification by the courts for going against the party promises made during elections or at least taken the issue to the people in the constituency of the three MLAs for their decision.
