Mangaluru: SIDS celebrates Swatch Bharath initiative, Womens’ Day

Mangaluru, Mar 13: Srinivas Institute of Dental Sciences in collaboration with the Indian Dental Association - Dakshina Kannada Branch (IDA-DK), the Department of Food and Nutrition, Government of India and Ayurveda Clinic Balkunje organized a workshop and continuing dental education programme under the 'Prevention is better than cure- role of infection control and personal hygiene' title on Wednesday, March 8 at Srinivas Institute of Dental Sciences, Mukka.

This initiative was a part of the Swacch Bharath mission initiated by the Government of India to be celebrated from March 1 to 15, and to commemorate Womens’ Day on March 8.

As part of the program, Dr Sharath Karanth, HOD Periodontics, Srinivas Institute of Dental Sciences, spoke on infection control and maintenance of cleanliness in clinics and hospitals. Jayaram Poojary, district health office, Mangaluru, spoke on the intake of nutritious food, environmental and personal hygiene. Dr Shobharani, medical officer, Ayurveda clinic, Balkunje, talked about Ayurveda and women's health.

Chief guest Dr Lavanya Varma, vice dean, Srinivas Institute of Dental Sciences, Dr Sreevidya Bhat, in-charge head, Public Health Dentistry Department, Dr Reshma Pai, HOD, Pedodontics, and Shivdarsan Tripathi, demonstration officer, Department of Food and Nutrition, Government of India, were present on occasion.

Painting competition and quiz programs were held as part of the International Women's Day celebration. Prizes were distributed to the winners. Teaching and non-teaching staff, interns and students of Srinivas Institute of Dental Sciences participated in all the events.
