Karnataka credits subsidy to farmers' bank accounts

Bengaluru, Mar 14 (IANS): The Karnataka government on Tuesday credited input subsidy of Rs 671 crore to the bank accounts of 9.68 lakh farmers whose kharif crop was devastated due to the severe drought in this fiscal.

"In addition to Rs 450 crore from the central government, the state government released Rs 221 crore as compensation to farmers for the loss of the kharif crop in 2016-17 due to drought," said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on the occasion.

The subsidy amount was transferred directly into the farmers' accounts from the state treasury account under the 'Parihara' programme, using in-house software.
