M'luru: Bertrand Russell High School bags Consumer Club Award

Mangaluru, Mar 16: Bertrand Russell English Medium High School bagged the coveted ‘Best District Consumer club award' in D K District for the 3rd consecutive year in a programme marking 'World Consumer Day'  at Zilla Panchayath Auditorium Hall, Kottara on Wednesday, March 15.

The programme was organised by Mangaluru's district administration,  the food, civil supplies and consumer affairs dept, in association with district consumer information centre. About 60 schools participated in the competition.


 

 

 


 

 

 


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The function was inaugurated by Vishweshwara Bhat, president, D K District Consumer Redressal Forum. Inaugurating the function Bhat said, “There should be an increasing consumer awareness created in the District. Consumer awareness has not reached all the people.”

Every year students visit the places of service providers/ suppliers and interact with them. They try to resolve issues pertaining to consumers and clear the doubts about the product/service. Last year students educated consumers on 'consumer rights' by compiling and publishing the orders of the District Consumer Redressal Forum, Mangaluru.

Buoyed by the success of the last year's work, the school students this year collected important orders of the Consumer Redressal Forums functioning in the different districts of Karnataka. The students translated these important jugdements from English to Kannada and released the book on occasion. The chief executive officer of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayath  Dr M R Ravi released the book.

By releasing the book Dr Ravi said, "Bertrand Russell English Medium High School students have done a wonderful work which will be appreciated by the Government. The judgements of Consumer Redressal Forum should be documented and Zilla Panchayath will try to do it in the future.

Co-ordinator of the consumer club of the Bertrand Russell School, Jyothi won the 'Best Co-ordinator' award.

Mallana Gowda, senior civil judge and secretary of district judicial service authority, Dakshina Kannada, M J Salian, president, DK district consumer federation, A T Jayappa  deputy director, food, civil supplies and consumer affairs department, Mangaluru, principals of different colleges of Mangaluru, president of Bertrand Russell High School, Aboobakar Kukkady, vice–president of Bertrand Russell High School Aboobakar Krishnapura, correspondent of the school Nisha Laxman were present on occasion.
