Chinese actress Li Li-hua dies at 92


Hong Kong, Mar 21 (IANS): Chinese actress Li Li-hua, who starred in over 120 movies between the 1940s and 1970s, has died here at the age of 92.

Li-hua died on Sunday, reports variety.com.

Born in 1924 in China, Li-hua achieved popularity right with her first film "Three Smiles" in 1940. She moved to Hong Kong in 1948 and made many of her films for Hong Kong studio Shaw Brothers.

Her lengthy career, which ran till 1978, earned her the nickname "China's Evergreen Tree".

Some of her prominent films included "Yang Gui Fei" and "Empress Wu".

In 1958, she became one of the first Chinese actresses to star in a Hollywood film "China Doll". She got married three times, including once when she was 80.
