Mangaluru, Mar 22: Drishya N Shetty, daughter of Nagesh Shetty, residing near Thokkottu over-bridge, has made her parents proud by securing seventh rank in Karnataka state in Ayurvedic medical degree, BAMS. Nagesh Shetty happens to be the driver of a tempo rickshaw which he operates around Thokkottu area.

Drishya, second daughter of Nagesh Shetty and Shamanta Shetty couple, had appeared for the final BAMS examination conducted by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences through ALNR Rao Memorial Ayurveda Medical College, Koppa in Chikkamagaluru district.

Drishya had got her primary education through Rotary English Medium School at Sakleshpur and completed high school education by getting distinction through St Jospeh's higher secondary school. She got her PU education in St Agnes PU College in the city before joining the said college to pursue medical degree in Ayurveda.

Drishya says she had not been reading the whole day for the final examination, but had put in hard work and took care not to waste time unnecessarily. She gives full credit to her parents for her success, as they had provided full encouragement and support to her. She confesses that she did not get the marks she expected, but the fact that she was among the rank holders has made her very happy. "I plan to pursue higher education in medical service, and then to serve the people backed by values of social justice," she says. Dr Drishya N Shetty continues with reading novels, which happens to be one among several of her hobbies.

Drishya's mother, Shamanta Shetty, who had earlier served as panchayat development officer, has been promoted. She now works in the computer division of zilla panchayat. She is elated at the achievement of her daughter, and gives credit to her husband for unstinting support given to his daughter which helped Drishya excel in studies.

Nagesh Shetty has been an active volunteer of Congress Sevadal. He has been involved with various organizations in Thokkottu region, and served as volunteer for a number of social service initiatives.

Dear Drishya Congratulations for your achievement. But I have to congratulate your parents too. has it is written that your father was Ricksha driver, I can understand and feel how much difficulties your parents must have gone through to make you reach that position.
I can even understand how much hard work you have put, and every hardship has yielded the fruit. Enjoy the fruit with your family. God bless you and your family.
My humble request to you that, whatever the position you take in future, always take your family with you because they are one who was with you in all your hardship and success.

Doctors, Priests, Parents, nurses etc takes the second place near to God's. Choosing to serve in these areas needs a lot of sacrifice.

I really appreciate Drishya N Shetty for choosing this career, and for her hard work. Definitely the credit goes to her parents too.

Ayurveda is one of the preeminent subjects. We the Mangaloreans are glad to have such personality who can do better to our society. Wish you all the best for your further studies and practices. God Bless.

Congratulation and hard work does pay off. Wish the young lady all the success .

The headline is really demeaning. Why we have to assume people with different professions can not make it? On the flip side, can we assume wealthy parentage buys their way to success. I guess that's what the society assume - we should change this attitude. As some on pointed out, profession of the parents is irreverent.

"Her father is a rickshaw driver" - but I think that is not relevant. Every profession is important and should be respected. I think Mr. Nagesh Shetty is also intelligent and hard working guy. Congratulations to parents also.

Do you have any understanding of what an Ayurveda course look like? They have to understand and mug up complex Sanskrit slokas and elaborate it .. It is not English that helps to score more in Ayurveda unlike typical degree.. someone with convent English with no Sanskrit background will simply flunk...

Anyways well tried, for some people fact does not matter,....LOL

Her name itself is Drishya. In Hindi Drishya means "sight" or "vision." That is what her name speaks of everthing of her and her achievement.
It has proved that parents play an important role in upbrining of thier children.
