Mangaluru: Spirituality meets science - This pilot serves as Daiva Patri with aplomb

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Mar 22: A youth from Elathur village under Kinnigoli gram panchayat limits works as pilot for Auric Air at South Africa. When he visits his hometown, he also serves as a Daiva Patri.

When flying the aircraft, he stands to represent advancement in science, and when at home, the youngster turns an epitome of devotion. The person who dons the duel roles of pilot and Patri with amazing ease happens to be Manoj Poojary from Elathur in the taluk.

Manoj, 29, is the son of Sundar Poojary and Gopi couple. Manoj has no hesitation to serve as Daiva Patri of Gudde Jumadi (Dhoomavati) Daiva in Kollur Garody in Mulky, the native of legendary, valiant heroes of Tulunadu, Kantabare and Budabare. He also discharges duty of having to support the face mask of Jarandaya Daiva of Shimantoor Majalaguthu. The devotion with which he attends to his duties deserves to be hailed. He was graced with the permission to serve Gudde Jumadi Daiva in the form of Patri and took charge on March 6 this year. Gudde Jumadi Nema is performed only at Adi killady, Padumanady and Purupu Guddesana. He was trained in the nuances of Patri role from Yadav Poojary from Manady, himself a Daiva Patri. Manoj performed at the Tudarabali held on March 19 as a Daiva Patri. He will be seen again as a Patri at the Nema being held on March 25 at Kantabare Budabare Daivasthana.

Kantabare and Budabare from Mulky region are hailed as valiant herors who made several miracles happen during their lifetime. The Garody dedicated to them, and Daivasthanas of Gudde Jumadi, Jarandaya Annappa Panjurli Daivasthana were in shambles since many years. When family members sought guidance through Nagadarshana in the past, they got the assurance that the same will get renovated when a child born in the family turns 18. True to this prediction, the Daivasthana was renovated when Manoj was 18 years old.

On that occasion, Manoj was introduced to the service of Daivas. Poojary began to support the face mask of Jarandaya Daiva of Elathur Majalaguthu in 2004. Manoj, who was educated in Narayanaguru English Medium School at Mulky before completing PU education through Vijaya College Mulky, pursued aircraft maintenance engineer course in Dehradun. He joined pilot training course in 2008 and got licence in 2010. He joined as pilot in South Africa where he pilots aircrafts which fly to different countries in African continent.

Manoj Poojary stands out as an excellent example to the fact that higher education and sophisticated employment do not come in the way of one's voluntary spiritual pursuits coming out of inner devotion, fortified by the belief that everything in one's life is guided by the divine.

Dear Ashok, Don't compare our daivas to a spirit and our nema's are not a tribal dance. They are part of our land and our family. We trust daivas and believing them. So we celebrating them in a beautiful soft way. Congratulations Mr Manoj

    Ashoka,

Hence don't try to travel with any aircraft, or even bus.
As per your concern "who knows which pilot or driver is following what kind of rituals"
You are having some travel phobia!!!
