Mangaluru: Rider claims riding on wrong side for years, creates nuisance at Nantoor

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Mar 23: A post in Facebook has brought to light alleged high-handedness of a scooter rider who was not only riding on the wrong side of a one-way road, but also creating nuisance to other commuters by deliberately parking in the middle of the road.

The Facebook page 'WB (Whistle Blowers) Mangaluru" put up a post describing the incident that took place on Wednesday March 22 near Nantoor junction here.

The post reads, "This gentleman coming from the wrong side at considerable speed, without wearing helmet almost hit one of the cyclist this morning near nantoor junction (sic).

"When questioned, he stated that he has been riding his scooter on the wrong side for many years and its none of our business to question him and he will continue riding it that way.

"He later started using foul language/ abusing the group of cyclists who were on right track, he also threatened them to get beaten up next time they are found cycling around nantoor (sic)."

When confronted, the rider parked his scooter in the middle of the road, challenging the cyclists to do whatever they wanted to. "Then comes the worst part!! He parked his scoote(r) in the middle of the road asking cyclists to do whatever they want to and in the process he blocked the morning traffic at nantoor junction. When he was done with his fight he again took the wrong side of the road, without wearing his helmet giving a sarcastic smile to everybody around (sic)."

The Whistle Blowers post further listed the number of offences the rider had committed:

"Offence as per our knowledge

Moving against One-Way
Driving without Helmet
Dangerous or Reckless Driving
Disturbance in free flow of traffic
Using Private vehicle for Commercial purposes
Overloading a vehicle beyond extent limit (sic)."

Speaking to daijiworld, ACP Thilakchandra, while not naming the alleged offender, said that he was a resident of Bejai and that notice has already been issued to him. His licence would be verified and suitable action would be taken, he said.

Taking serious note of the incident, the DCP (traffic) has said that action would be taken against the rider by Thursday March 23 evening.

There is no fear/concern of Trafic rules in India due to failure of Traffic Police/department in strictly implementing the Traffic rules. It is usual scenes in Mangalore that Traffic violations takes place in front of their eyes and violators goes freely with out any punishment. It can be noticed most of the time two wheelers squeeze in the narrow spaces to overtake from wrong side. Why slow moving and heavy vehicles allowed to move through inner road in four lane roads? You might have experienced dead slow traffic between Kottara Chowki and KPT due to heavily loaded slow moving trucks occupying both lanes .
In India it would be proper if driving license and Motor vehicle license linked to the Aadhar card, fines settled through bank payment and Point systems introduced for violators.

Because of wrong traffic systum riding on wrong side is common in Mangalore. In Bejai main road from Church to KSRTC in the middle there was a divider cutting.now recently it has closed. Now a days riders going in the worng side because to take right turn one has to go long distance. I feel instead of joining the divider they must put two Humps on both sides to control traffic.

Riding or driving on the wrong side of the road is very common practice in Mangalore. It happens even in front of traffic police. They do not take any action until some blows whistle like above.
The real problem is, those who learn driving/riding are not taught well by the driving school instructors, those who take their driving test have not taken thoroughly. As only Money talks and bullsh*t walks in India.

Its very unfortunate. Like most of us comment its been a normal in mangalore. It doesn't just disturb the traffic flow but risks the life. It happened right in front of my eyes while a person on bike coming wrong side without noticing what's coming in his front ( because his view was blocked by a car, and all except this bike were in correct side. ) and was hit by some other vehicle, whose view was also blocked by same car. And this person had minor injuries, but suffered because of him following correct rules.

Even after all the discussions, i am sure, we have at least 5-10 % here who take wrong side just to save some drops of fuel and some minutes of time with risking their and co- riders life

Just imagine... such a small inexistence creature can impact the public traffic. How dare he ? Don't you think it's our own judicial system has given him such a bold daring. If he was using wrong side since long time and the traffic police never caught him, that itself is a major disaster. That's why he got the courage to stop the entire traffic today. Good it has been taken by this wonderful group named "Whistle Blowers". This gentleman is gone....
