Oman: Ghala Mangalurean Catholic Community welcomes Edward Mendonca as new president

Muscat, Apr 16: Edward Mendonca, a vibrant leader and an active social worker of the Mangalurean community of the Holy Spirit Church, Ghala, has been selected as the president of the Ghala Mangalurean Catholic Community (GMCC- Holy Spirit Church – Ghala) for the year 2017 – 2019.

The new executive committee has also been formed with some of the talented members of the community. “Edward has been an active member of the Mangalurean community for many years and he is the right choice to lead the community,” says one of the senior member of the Ghala Mangalurean community. “He has been rendering his unselfish services in various capacities for several years. He has a strong ability of leading the community with wisdom and courage and has also been enjoying a strong support from the community members for many years. In fact, his nomination for the president’s post is a pleasant surprise for all of us.”

Edward Mendonca hails from St Lawrence parish, Belle and is presently settled in St Anthony Parish, Kunthal Nagar. After his studies in Mumbai, he came to Oman around 35 years ago and currently works for Moosa Abdul Rahman Hassan & Co LLC, one of the leading organizations in the automobile and engineering fields. For the last 25 years, he has been serving the Ghala parish and the Ghala Mangalurean community backstage with selfless motives. He has always tried to promote Mangalurean culture and tradition among the community members. Edward is also a good actor and has acted in several Konkani stage shows and dramas.

Edward and his wife, Philomena are blessed with a multi-talented daughter, Priyanka who is one of the youngest choreographers of the community and also a proud member of the Oman’s national ladies cricket team.

The members of the executive committee of the Ghala Mangalurean Catholic Community for the year 2017 – 2019 are:-

To present the team and commence the new tenure, an inaugural programme has been arranged on Saturday April 22 at the Holy Spirit Church, Ghala. The programme will commence with a Holy Mass in Konkani at 5.30 pm at the Holy Spirit Church, Ghala followed by an entertainment at the church hall.
