Mandya, Apr 17: In an incident which came into the open on Sunday April 16, over 30 monkeys were found to have been inhumanly killed by unknown miscreants by feeding poison to them. The corpses of these monkeys were stuffed into gunny bags and tossed in a desolate spot near Kanive Borappa temple near Keretonnur in Pandavapura taluk.

The local farmers, who saw gunny bags near the temple got suspicious and opened them to find to their horror that the bags were full of dead bodies of monkeys. They immediately informed forest and police departments. The police who visited the area said the matter pertains to forest department. A forest department official came there later and confirmed that the monkeys had been poisoned. He told the villagers to conduct the funeral of the animals as his higher authorities were on leave, before returning.

Thereafter, villagers of Keretonnnur and Thirumalapura villages collected money from locals and performed the final rites of the monkeys.

Isnt it funny?First police were not interested about dead monkeys, pushing it on forest dept.Forest dept .simply saw the monkeys and saying the villagers to conduct the funeral of monkeys.Nobody interests for the cause ,or to ask who were culprits.when higher officials are in (ALL?)leave why cant he arrange it?Put the burdon on villagers?Someone must have poisoned them because the nonsense they create.Sad people dont understand the importance of animals in todays world.May be someone wanted to cut the trees? But why poison animals ,that too so many once a time.what to say?culprit must be arrested, and be punished.
