Puttur, Apr 18: The third district and sessions court here declined to grant bail to Puttur Urban Development Authority (PUDA) assistant director, Lavanya, who was caught red-handed by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials when accepting bribe. She is currently in judicial custody. ACB had arrested the official during a raid to the office of PUDA on April 12.

Lavanya's advocate moved the bail application. Judge of the court, H S Pushpanjali Devi, who heard the petition, rejected it. Public prosecutor, K S N Rajesh, had appeared in the court on behalf of the prosecution.

It was alleged that she had demanded for a bribe of Rs 20,000 to attend to a work, but  consequently brought down the demand to Rs 10,000 at the request of the person concerned. Aggrieved by the demand, a local, Keshava Suvarna, had approached ACB with complaint. A court in the city had remanded her to judicial custody thereafter.
