Tumakuru: Banyan trees gets uprooted, crushes van, kills two

Tumakuru, Apr 21: Two persons died on the spot after a banyan tree on the roadside that had turned dry and brittle over a period of time got uprooted and fell on a Maruti Van that was passing by near Bettadahalli Gate in Gubbi taluk in the district on Thursday, April 20.

Jayasimha (25) from Pavagada and his friend, Padu (23), who were travelling by the ill-fated Maruti van died instantly in the accident. Shivaratnamma, Shobha, and a 15-day-old male baby who were seated in the back seat miraculously survived.

It is learnt that Jayasimha was moving to Vartekatte near Chelur via M N kote in the van to attend a programme when tragedy struck them.
