Odisha BJP executive meet focuses on strengthening base

Bhubaneswar, Apr 22 (IANS): The Odisha unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday began its two-day state executive meeting with a view to strengthening its organisational base in the state ahead of the 2019 elections.

The state leaders have assembled in Baripada in north Odisha after the grand success of the party's national executive meeting, attended by the party's top leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the state capital.

"The party would prepare a road map to further strengthen the organisation at the grassroot level. Besides, we will take up issues against the present government led by Naveen Patnaik," said state BJP in-charge Arun Singh.

Buoyed by the overwhelming results in the recently concluded Panchayat election, where the BJP relegated the Congress to third position, the party hopes that it has a good chance to dethrone the BJD government and come to power if it further strengthens its base at the grassroots.

The party would pass several political resolutions in the executive meeting, said state BJP spokesperson Sajjan Sharma.

Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will attend the meeting on Sunday.
