Mangaluru: Wilfy Rebimbus’ popular play ‘Thisri Cheet’ staged to houseful audience

Mangaluru, Apr 24: A houseful audience witnessed Wilfy Rebimbus written popular play of yesteryears ‘Thisri Cheet’ staged at Don Bosco hall in city on Sunday, April 23.

The play was presented by Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) in memory of Konkani legend Wilfy Rebimbus on his 75th birth anniversary year.

The play which was staged many times during the lifetime of Wilfy Rebimbus was presented with few necessary changes but with maintaining the original flavour and super hit songs like ‘Metilda’ ‘Dorya Veller’ ‘Chinthana Phutwana..’. The three hour play was directed by Dolla Mangaluru, assisted by Claud D’Souza.

Dolphy Saldanha, Jossy Rego, Aloysius D’Souza, Cyril Fernandes, Meera Pinto, Felix Lasrado, Alwyn Veigas, Shawn Rodrigues, Valentine Kulshekar, Rynel Niddel, Deepthi Permannur, Dimple Pinto, Joswin and Ashwin Bendur, Judy D’Souza, Simon Bendur, Ethan Kulshekar with others acted in the drama.

Satish Suratkal and Joswin Pinto provided music.

In between the scenes, three songs of Wilfy Rebimbus were sung live due to popular demand by Ivan Sequeira, Prem Lobo, Claud D’Souza and Babitha Pinto.

Konkani Natak Sabha vice-president Sunil Menezes thanked all the sponsors and people who helped in staging the drama.

A short stage programme was compered by CGS Taccode prior to the drama. Claud D’Souza’s musical CD ‘Mojya Dhuve’ was released by Austin D’Souza Prabhu during the show. Fr Paul Melwyn D'Souza welcomed.

    It is nice to see the famous "good old" Don Bosco Hall of the Konkany Natak Sabha, in its old form, size and shape. It is also nice to see a Capuchin Priest on the stage that reminds us of late Fr. Philip Neri who master-minded the Don Bosco Hall with the help of late Rev. Fr. George Albuquerque with the help of late Felix Albuquerque and family.

    It is also nice that in memory of late Wilfy Rebimbos the Konkany play "Thisri Cheet" was staged again on April 22, 2017. Late Wilfy Rebimbos deserves the recognition and memento for all his dedication and service to the Konkany Community of Mangalore.

    Staging concerts such as these re-vitalizes our tributes to Wilfy Rebimbos for all his noteworthy contributions to Konkany Music and also Konkany culture. Gestures such as these will motivate Meena Rebimbos and her daughter Veena and her son Viswas and their respective families to continue their talents in Konkany music and enrich our Society.

    The package containing a chain of Wilfy's musical cds that was given to us by Wilfy himself few months before his death are carefully preserved in our humble home in Texas. We regularly play some of Wilfy's favorite Konkany songs and truly admire the tasteful lyrics that he has left behind in this world for us to enjoy throughout our life time. We often admire Wilfy's unique talent in Konkany music and lyrics, and truly feel that God was indeed kind to him in bestowing the unique talent in music and lyrics that have benefitted our Konkany society to move to higher pedestal.

    Our best wishes therefore are extended to Meena Rebimbos and her family to extend their continued support in the journey that was initiated by late Wilfy Rebimbos and the United Youngsters. Our support will always be there because our Konkany language and culture is unique that need be closely integrated in the mainstream of many other Indian cultures that we embrace so dearly.
