Udupi, Apr 24: Sathish Nayak (46), resident of the town who works for Manipal Power Press in the capacity of machine operator, who was moving in his scooter, took a turn towards a petrol bunk at Indrali Junction at around 4.45 pm on Sunday April 23, when a Toyota Innova car coming from behind collided with his vehicle.
The driver of Innova, it appears, did not expect that the two-wheeler ahead would take a turn all of a sudden. Before he could respond to the situation, accident had happened on the state highway. Nayak suffered serious injuries in the accident and fell to the road. He continued to be there for sometime before help arrived.
Some locals took Nayak to KMC Hospital Manipal by an auto rickshaw. Although the doctors tried to save him, Nayak breathed his last at around 6 pm on Sunday. He is survived by wife and two children, it is gathered.
Some youngsters who were seated in a bar nearby, who had not made any efforts to rescue Nayak and provide him treatment immediately after the accident, got involved with an argument with police personnel when they arrived at the scene of the accident sometime later to conduct spot inspection and take the Innova driver with them. The youngsters said they wanted to teach a lesson to the Innova driver and demanded the driver to be handed over to them. Their body language suggested that they were ready to assault the police personnel.
However, when the police prepared the inquest report thereafter and asked the young people to sign, they refused.
