Mangaluru: Five years from now, ride to Bengaluru in four hours

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Apr 27: Currently the car ride to Bengaluru from the city takes about eight hours. However, if the plans now drawn up are implemented, one can reach Bengaluru from here in just about four hours time. A high quality highway with separate lanes for trucks and slow-moving vehicles will make this dream a reality.

In this highway which will conform to international standards, there will not be provision for frequent U-turns or entry into the highway directly from side roads. Vehicles transporting goods, petrol, and other things will have exclusive lanes. The union government has envisaged such highways which will be known as new generation highways. Under the ambitious project titled 'Bharatmala' visualized by the Modi government, about 20,000 km long roads will be developed all over the country in the first phase at a cost of Rs 3.8 lac crore. The entire project is planned to be completed in five years.

In these highways, slow-moving vehicles like auto rickshaws, bicycles and motor bikes will have to move on the lanes earmarked for them. As per the proposal, the existing roads will be upgraded with a minimum of four lanes on each side. In addition, improved service roads will support the highways. It is learnt that the ministry of highways has prepared report on development of 12,000 km of high speed highways.

Under the first phase of high speed highways, four highways, Mangaluru to Bengaluru, Mumbai-Kolkata, Ludhiana-Kandla and Porbandar-Silchar highways have been chosen for development under the project. These highways have been chosen on the basis of potentials for port connectivity, production areas, and link between leading business centres.

Currently, 80 percent of goods transport happens through national highways measuring 60,000 km.

It will be great if it happens. But ....in five years? The biggest problem in India for completing any project is land acquisition. In addition, when the question of Mangalore - Bangalore road comes up, there will be a hue and cry by the environmentalists that this high way will destroy the western ghats bio reserve. There will be numerous court cases by many genuine and many vested interested parties too. Thus even if GOI starts such projects with good intentions and with an eye on future developments, there may be too many road blocks against these projects. Five years? Doubtful !

But yes, it may be possible if GOI creates an organisation similar to Konkan Railways and brings back Mr. Sridharan as its head. Only people like Mr. Sridharan who has the nerve to withstand political interference can accomplish the job.

Remember, Gadkari was one of the key persons behind successful completion of Mumbai-Pune expressway within 3 years which included ghat section. He is now one of the best performing ministers in the Modi cabinet clearing so many pending projects and making sure they are completed as early as possible. During UPA, many infrastructure projects were stuck somewhere. Suresh Prabhu is also doing a great job in completing railway infrastructure projects.

Said they will make concrete road ended up doing yethinaholey project.
Destroying zillions of trees in western ghats ... n will make mangalore suffer for water in future ...

Why is it always about bangalore ... ?
These people close all the lakes n make layout n tech parks.. n demand water from neighbouring cities n states ...sad..

More funny was for yethinaholey project they consulted a professor .. even when scientists told that there is no 25TMC water to pump..
In the name of constructing double road they blocked the road for years.. until completed major work on dam project ...

They made concrete road.. which is not safe.. who on earth does concrete road in ghats when u have up hill climbing .... these surface become smooth n vehicles can't steer .. n now they covering turnings with tar... such a blunder..

    Just making money ...

We don't need this 4hrs road...

5 years from now, why wait so long for a promise made now because after 5 years nobody will remember the said promise. Those who have super power brains should ask the govt after 5 years i.e., 27.4.2022 whether the promise is fulfilled. In India promises are made for long period which the govt knows that people don't have the patience to remember it. This promise is also going to be the same - Promise and Forget because it is 5 years from now.

Definitely a good News for all Mangaloreans and Bangaloreans who frequent between these cities. Something that is good should be appreciated regardless from whom or from where it is coming. There so many thing that Modi is doing which good for the nation and we all should appreciate that (definitely his talks are more than his actions). If someone is doing something good that should be appreciated. Not that because he is from BJP or Congress we should criticize them even when they good. But However I am sure this Mlore-Blore road is announced keep in mind the next state election.

Yes bullet trains, for Cows!So that Cows can travel to graze at their favourite cities and delivery milk to milk collection centres of their choice directly,so that middleman(Milkman) is eliminated and they earn right price.
If humans are caught travelling they will be beaten up.

If this becomes a reality then there is no need of spending 1600 crore on extending the runway at IXE. IXE can connect to domestic and gulf region and BLR can act as the main airport.
