Kundapur, May 24: An investigation was held recently, to understand why the panchayat members boycotted the Kundapur taluk meeting. The probe was held under the leadership of the deputy commissioner. The meeting was given a miss over the issue of transfer of the EO there.

The ruling party BJP members had alleged that the behaviour of the Kundapur taluk panchayat executive officer, M Channappa, was questionable, and had, therefore, boycotted the general meeting that should have been held earlier.

There were discussions also held in Zilla panchayat in this regard. In the circumstances, a meeting was held under the leadership of the chief executive officer of zilla panchayat and Udupi deputy commissioner, Priyanka Mary Francis. News reporters were not allowed in the meeting.

News reporters were not allowed in the meeting.

The DC who took up the matter said that official transfer does not come under their purview. “However, cancellation or curtailing of a meeting for controversy over transfer of an official will be a violation of the Panchayat Raj law,” she warned.

She has asked for three committees to be formed immediately, and an general meeting to be held.
