Bengaluru: State to move Supreme Court over cattle trade curbs

Bengaluru, May 29: Minister for animal husbandry and sericulture A Manju on Sunday May 28 said that the state government will approach the Supreme Court if the Centre’s notification on the prevention of cruelty to animals (regulation of livestock markets) rules, 2017, is not withdrawn.

Speaking to reporters Manju said the Centre had not approached any of the state governments and farmers before issuing the notification.

He also said that he will suggest chief minister Siddaramaiah to table the issue in Cabinet meeting to discuss its pros and cons.


“We will approach the Central government with a request to withdraw the bill. If it refuses, then we will launch a legal battle,” Manju said.

"This bill is anti-farmer. It is totally different from the prevention of cow slaughter and cattle preservation act, 1964," he added.

"As per the new bill, the buyer and seller of cattle in open markets should first prove that they are farmers to get certificates of the animals from veterinarians. Why will a farmer sell the cattle if it can be used for cultivation? ” he asked.

    India is going forward no doubt but some leaders are concentrating on non-related issues. Why snatching people choice of food, way of dressing, freedom of speech etc. For rich and afluent people no problem paying Rs. 500.- per mutton or chicken in their daily menue. What will the poor class or low income (daily wages) families will have a peiece meat in their plate. (if atall cattle slaughter is forcefully introduced.) Aalternatively bring total ban on cattle but subsidise other products for low income people. Even multi Billionnairs can share the burden.

    Its a complete plan by the NDA to fund the jobless youth who can bank on the small cattle traders.
    As per the law you have to approach a new agency for a permission to buy and the same to sell a cattle.The new agency is nothing but a totally new nexus of Gorakshak Team who want protection money.

    Make mutton, chicken and pork available through ration card on a subsidised rates. Give interest free loan to farmers to buy cattles and chicken farming. This way you can ban cow slaughter strictly.

    If a few upper castes or regressive people of Hindi-belt do not eat beef then let them not eat. But they CANNOT tell other Indians what to eat, what to wear and how to pray.

    Let's not forget that apart from minorities there are a huge number of SC's, Tribals, OBC, South Indians, North Easterners who eat beef so let these Nagpur-based hypocrites stop interfering.

    The BJP Govt at the centre has nothing concrete to offer to the people after all the false promises made during the last general elections.     Livestock/Cattle in most of draught effected areas throughout India perishing or starving due to lack of fodder/water. Why God is simply watching?
    Religious sentiments have already overtaken in the administrative affairs and well of people. What is waiting in the days to come we would not know. Going to change from liberal, secular country to hard line rightwing ruled country.

    I Remember in my neighborhood poor Hindu families eagerly wait for Bakrid than muslims those who have cattle, so they can sell it and get the handsome amount from which they renovate their little huts into house and fulfill their other needs at least once year. Also i had seen they save the amount for their daughter's marriage. Moreover the beef is healthy food of poor people irrespective of caste.

    In foreign countries there is separate lane for Buses and taxis. Indian may recommend Cow lane. The farmers who cannot feed the old cows will leave them to go anywhere, i.e. on roads as he has to spend money to obtain a certificate to sell his cows. So may be in future Government has to plan cow lane??????

    Yeah sure. But none of those countries slaughter Pork there. Do they !!!
    The meat is imported in hygienic conditions. Same should be done on India. No slaughter, only imported meat for the enthusiasts. Since we are bit more sickular, there can be some more options like, Raring meat breed cattle like Europe or rest of the world( meant only for meat) or allowing Old animals that cannot be used in agriculture, and their owners do not want to take care of them or cannot afford to can be sent to slaughter houses. This should be misused by stealing healthy milking cows for the sake of Beef in your plate like how its happening now. Not like the way how the Dongis Narakasuras in Somalia slit the throat in Public just like how Talibans or ISIS do in public just to appease their vote bank.

    This will increase corruption...... Farmer who wants to sell than he must obtain a certificate. Indian Government officials will issue a certificate by taking bribe. In India some people are getting backward class, st/Sc certificates even though they are not of that caste. Money making rules.

    I would have stood by the government if the restrictions were just on cows. Unfortunately, the notifications includes, ' cows, bulls, bullocks, buffalos, steers, heifers and camels.'
    The move is just to target Muslims who dominate meat Industry in India. It has to be opposed unanimously.
