Cattle ban to put Meat Products of India in crisis, says director

Kochi, May 29 (PTI): Amid a public outcry over the Centre's notification banning sale of cattle for slaughter, a PSU in Kerala fears that its business will be badly hit for want of raw materials.

The Meat Products of India Ltd (MPI), a meat and meat products manufacturing company in Ernakulam district, sources materials mainly from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and if the rule is strictly implemented, there would be no movement of livestock including buffaloes, said one of its top officials.

Ironically, the Centre's move has come when MPI enhanced the capacity of its plant spending Rs 31.5 crore, Shaju Jacob, one of the directors of MPI said.

"The new rule will put MPI in a crisis. Sourcing livestock will be a big problem," Jacob said.

The products of MPI are derived from young and healthy livestock and are processed using sophisticated technology to ensure high standards of hygiene, longer storage time and more nutritive value.

He said the Centre's decision will also affect MPI's plans to export the products.

"The MPI products manufactured under strict veterinary supervision from selected animals free from zoonotic disease would have got a huge demand from abroad, particularly the Gulf. Now that door seems to be closed with this decision," Jacob lamented.

Currently, MPI products are available with all leading supermarkets and cold storages throughout Kerala and other states.

He said the MPI was seeking new ways to overcome the crisis.

"Currently, we are running in losses to the tune of Rs. 19 crore. We are seeking possibilities of encouraging farmers in local areas to rear the livestock for meeting our demand for the raw materials," Jacob said.

Established in the year 1973, the company holds a category "A" FSSAI license for the manufacture and marketing of meat and meat products.

Govt should provide alternative by providing us beef from foreign countries...Especially Brazil which produces large amount of beef from Indian breed...Meanwhile in India cow is reducing in its population not because of its consumption but due to restriction by the govt and threat by hindutva forces no one is willing to take such risky profession anyomore...with this new govt move and machinisation of agriculture profession the cow population is already dwindling...But Brazil which breeds Indian cows exclusively for beef has become one of the largest exporters of beef..There cow population is not decreasing but increasing...But India with govt regulations it is decreasing...
If gulf countries ban pork ...it doesnt impact their economy coz no one is rearing pork there...It is not case with India ...millions of farmers rare cow here...Any restriction will impact not only these poor farmers but also the economy of the country....who will raise this cow after it stops giving milk...Farmers will giveup dairy as a profession in future...Another fact Indian dairy industry is dependent on buffalo not cow..Atleast buffalo is not holy ...alllow buffalo meat...

Immediately all Indians should join together and ban the following products and never allowed to be transported for sale through public Markets. 1. Ban all vegetables as they have life. 2. Ban sale and killing Pigs. 3. Ban sale and killing of Goats. 4. Ban Sale and Killing of Chicken. 5. Ban sale and killing of Fruits. All these products used for human consumption is cruelty to Plants, fruits and Animals. So what human beings can eat, let BJP and RSS decide as they are trying to make Indians into slavery. BJP/RSS will decide what we should eat, whom should we love, whom should we live with, how should we live etc. etc. This is nothing but slavery.

So far people eating meat .So the vegetables .chicken fish prices are moderate. But if they will baning beef will cause all the people who eating vegetables due to hike in prices.Nowadays the growing of vegetable are become less due to the land .water problems .not available labours .Only farmers or agriculterist can understand the difficulties how much struggling in their work .In democracy country banning peoples right is not acceptable. Even some gulf countires some meat are banned as per their religion but they allowed to sell and buy due to the people are from deffrent part of the world consuming it .Tommorow Govt will ban manythings which is allowed to eat and do as per constitutional rights .Any way this is depend on all the indian people to vote right people in power
