Udupi, May 30: All the members of Kaup Municipal council in the meeting on May 29, threatened to protest blocking the highway if the work of NH66 is not completed soon.

“The poor work of roads connecting national highway
posed problems for traffic. There will be a disaster if the work is not completed before the rainy season”, said member Laxmisha Tantri. Chief official Rayappa said that the national highway authority had not responded appropriately to the letter written to them. “Even though we invited them to the meeting, they did not come”, he said.

The chief official, answering a question raised by Kiran Alva, stated that the absence of permanent officials of the authority and ignorance of authority rules among people causes the problems. “The officials are available for two days in a week. They will be called within a week, and members will be provided with the information”, he said.

Anil Poojary asked why there is no drain for the flow of waste water from the hotel. The chief official said that necessary action about it would be taken in a week and requested members not to telephone about it in between. “A revised report of drainage project is submitted to the government. There is hope of its implementation soon”, he said.

The members unanimously objected to providing the municipal council auditorium for meeting by the department of agriculture recently. Rayappa clarified that it was only a preliminary meeting of the informatory meeting that will be held on June 3.

Kiran Alva complained that water pipe contractors are charging excess amount for pipeline work. The chief officer said that there are several complaints against them and asked the concerned officer to cancel their licence.

Municipal council president Saumya, vice president K H Usman, standing committee president Hameed Mulooru were present on occasion.
