Goa lawyer demands ban on Zakir Naik, IRF Facebook pages

Panaji, Jun 6 (IANS): A lawyer filed a complaint with Goa Police on Monday, demanding a ban on the Facebook pages of controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik and his organisation Islamic Research Foundation (IRF).

The Goa-based lawyer said the pages are active despite a ban on the foundation.

"The Islamic Research Foundation and Dr Zakir Naik are active in India, even after the notification of ban, and are committing cognisable offence. Therefore, the Facebook page of IRF and Zakir Naik should be blocked immediately. Also, an offence must be registered against Naik and his active followers, fans, members," advocate Nagesh Takbhate said in his complaint to the Cyber Cell of Goa Police.

The lawyer asked for his complaint be registered under the Information and Technology Act, 2008, and Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

The complainant also says that the respective Facebook pages were posting objectionable content and encouraging followers to "promote disharmony between different religious communities and groups".

If you ban people who use pen as weapon than you giving a good cause for people who use guns as weapon. Zakir Naik is well within his right to say what he likes, if you don't like it take him to a neutral court (not corrupt and communal Indian courts) to proof his crime.

All the access to Dr. Zakir Naik should be disconnected. No doubt this man has studied Theology. He must be a scholar in his area of expertise but somewhere he is lacking. The best example is - he always keep saying only good Muslims can enter Jannat & all other religions of this world will go to Jahannam! How come? Crazy!!!
