Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jun 22: Unexpectedly, rainfall in coastal region of Karnataka has declined since the last few days. On Wednesday, little rain was experienced in the city, which was in contrast with torrential rains experienced in the previous years.

The city wore cloudy weather since Wednesday morning. Light rain in small stretches was experienced later, with occasional rise in intensity. There was some rain at night. Among the taluks, Sullia and Beltangady registered more rainfall.

The meteorological department expects cloudy weather with light rain to persist in the next few days.

We badly need the rains. As of today, we are still short of rains according to meteorology department. So let's pray for the rains and hope for the best.

The rains what we receive for the districts of DK and Udupi is more than enough to sustain both the districts for the entire summer.
The problem is , we do not store it. Our ponds/dams etc have to be upgraded to store the rain water.
There has been very less work in this area.
You get to hear some noises from the elected representatives and the officials when there is water shortage, but no concrete measure is being taken.
The quantity of rainfall even with a 25% deficiency in rainfall is still enough to serve both the districts.
we do not do rainwater harvesting etc in our individual house to recharge our wells.
