Udupi: Adani UPCL holds blood donation, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Vanamahotsava programme

Udupi, Jun 26: Adani owned UPCL Company, operating 1,200 MW power plant in Yellur village, today organized blood donation drive, Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and Vanamahotsava programme in association with its CSR wing Adani Foundation. These events were organized to mark the birthday of Adani Group’s founder chairman Gautam Adani.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was organised in the name of 'Prayas' in the surrounding villages Yellur, Mudarangadi, Nandikuru and Padubidri. UPCL’s joint president Kishore Alva flagged-off the event at UPCL plant premises by taking a pledge on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a vision by Mahatma Gandhiji and everyone’s support is required to make the dream true. Cleanliness should start from home itself and if everyone ensures cleanliness at their home, workplace and surroundings, we can witness cleanliness everywhere," he said.

The panchayat members of Yellur, Mudarangadi, Palimar and Padubidri supporting the event joined hands with UPCL for the Abhiyan. Thanking Gram Panchayat for their support, Alva informed that the company will has prepared an action plan to continue the event.

Blood donation drive under the banner 'Go-Red' was later organised at UPCL plant premises, NMPT premises and Udupi District Hospital. The medical team from Udupi District Hospital, Wenlock Hospital, Mangaluru, A J Hospital, Mangaluru, Tejaswini Hospital, Yenepoya Hospital were invited for facilitating the blood donation drive. The blood donation camp was formally inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by Dr Sharath from Wenlock Hospital, Dr Veena from Udupi District Hospital, Edward from Indian Red Cross Society, Gopalakrishna from A J Hospital and Kishore Alva, joint president of UPCL.

Inaugurating the camp, Alva welcomed the medical team and informed that UPCL is organizing many social development activities in hand and with this blood donation drive, all the employees of UPCL are joining hands for the noble cause. Alva encouraged everyone to come forward and donate blood if able-bodied as this one simple action will speak for itself about gentleness, fellow-feelings, kindness and love for humanity. "God has created life in this world. By donating blood to the life in need of blood, we save God’s children. Hence by serving man, we serve God."

Inaugurating the blood donation camp, Dr Sharath informed that UPCL along with Adani Foundation is serving a noble cause by organizing blood donation drive every year. He expressed happiness that in addition to the village development activities, Adani UPCL under its CSR, is giving life to many lives with this blood donation drive. He added that one unit of blood can save four lives and every year Adani UPCL by donating more than 500 units of blood is saving lives of more than 2000 people.

Dr Veena from District Medical Hospital, Udupi, spoke on the occasion and said that every year Adani Group is donating blood to the twin districts of Mangaluru and Udupi, thereby rendering the noble cause. She explained the importance of donating blood, its platelets and plasma.

671 units of blood were collected by the camp and Alva thanked all the volunteers who participated in the event.

Vanamahotsava programme was also celebrated. Families residing in the UPCL rehabilitation colony were distributed fruit bearing sapling and plantations were made in the rehabilitation colony. During the 'Go-Green' event, Alva said that Adani UPCL has already planted more than 4 lac trees inside the plant premises and in the coming days, social afforestation programme will be organized in the areas identified by the nearby gram panchayats.
