Over 400 foreigners booked for crimes in Goa since 2012: Parrikar


Panaji, Aug 2 (IANS): Over 400 foreign nationals, including 283 Nigerians, have been booked for a variety of crimes in Goa in the last five years, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the Goa assembly on Tuesday.

According to statistics he tabled in the assembly, Nigerians are followed by Russian (49), British (37) and Nepali (19) nationals, who are at the top as far as crimes registered in this tourist destination are concerned.

While drug-trade tops the nature of crimes committed by foreign nationals with as many as 63 cases registered under sections of the Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 58 foreign nationals have been booked for cheating, 46 for violation of the Foreigners Act and 21 for rioting.

Sixteen foreign nationals have been booked for murder, attempt to murder and culpable homicide.
