Udupi: Netrajyothi College of Optometry holds orientation for freshers

Udupi, Aug 2: Netrajyothi College of Optometry, an associate institution of Prasad Netralaya Super Specialty Eye Hospital, here, held the inaugural programme for the new batch of students, at the orientation, on Wednesday, July 26.

The guest of honour Anuradha G, assistant district commissioner, Udupi, addressed the gathering and said, "Dr Krishna Prasad, who has worked in the General Hospital is well aware of pains of the poor people with regard their health related problems. Students of this college should also serve in villages after their graduation, just as Dr Krishna Prasad is doing, with lots of free eye camps and free surgeries in rural area, for the poor needy patients. Being the chairman of Vision Committee, Government of Karnataka, Dr Krishna Prasad has prepared a rule wherein free eye testing campaigns are provided for all school children of Karnataka State.

The pupils of the college must study hard as the infrastructure provided by Prasad Netralaya to the students is of the best standards in the world."


    












She congratulated Dr Krishna Prasad for providing such quality education to the students of BSc Optometry, affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi Health University, and DOT,  affiliated to Para Medical Board, Government of Karnataka.

The second guest of honour, Raghuram Rao, director, Prasad Netralaya, Udupi spoke about how teachers can only teach their best, but it is primarily the students’ effort that counts.

Dr Krishna Prasad K, chairman, Prasad Netralaya Group Concerns, presided over the programme. In his speech, he traced the growth trajectory of hospital. He explained the reasons for establishing the college. "Training and education can be provided with world-class technological  equipment and teaching by highly qualified doctors, which is available at Prasad Netralaya. Students get best of the training with these facilities."

College principal Poornima explained about the courses and the benefits and job opportunities that entail. Dr Giridhar Kanti, administrative officer of Netra Jyothi College explained the rules and regulations and the college calendar.

Abdul Khader was felicitated during the programme, recognising his efforts of commissioning the college.  

Veena Rao, director, Prasad Netralaya, Rashmi Krishna Prasad, director, Ophthalmic consultants Dr Paresh Poojary, Dr Hari Prasad Vokuda,  and Dr Shamanth Shetty were present on the dais.

Najwa Shabbar welcomed the gathering.

MV Acharya, administrative officer, Prasad Netralaya, was the master of the ceremony.
