Panaji: ‘Model code applicable across state’

Panaji, Aug 6 (TOI): The chief election officer confirmed that the model code of conduct for the ensuing bypolls which came into effect from July 27, 2017, is applicable to entire state of Goa. The bypolls in Panaji and Valpoi constituencies will be held on August 23 and the counting will take place on August 28.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) while issuing the notification of the bypolls last month, had said that the code of conduct would be applicable only in North Goa.

A couple of days later, it was brought to the notice of ECI that Usgao village, which is part of Valpoi constituency, falls in South Goa district. Accordingly, ECI declared that the code of conduct applies to the entire state.
