Udupi: ICYM celebrates Monti fest with cultural extravaganza

Udupi, Sep 9: The ICYM unit of St Lawrence Parish, Moodubelle organized cultural programme on the occasion of the feast of the Nativity of Mother Mary (Monthi Festh) on Friday, September 8 from 4.30 pm to 7pm at St Lawrence PU College Hall. 

A large number of parishioners enjoyed the variety entertainment programme professionally presented by the ICYM members and other parish members from different wards.

Prior to the cultural programme, a brief stage programme was held presided over by Fr Clement Mascarenhas, parish priest. 

Fr Fred Mascarenhas, former parish priest of Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi and dean of Udupi Varado, presently parish priest of Padukone Church was the chief guest. Other guests on the dais included Fr Sunil Kumar D’Souza, Fr Lawrence Cutinha, Vincent Fernandes, vice president, Latha D’Mello, secretary of parish pastoral council, Anitha Alva and Valerian Noronha, animators of ICYM and Vinod D’Souza, president of ICYM, Moodubelle Unit.

Following the prayers song and welcome by Vinod D’Souza, two youngsters who had excelled in their respective examinations were felicitated by the dignitaries on the dais. Vijay D’Souza, ICYM secretary for sports introduced these two youngsters.

Rishal Fernandes, daughter of Robert Fernandes and Veera Fernandes, headmistress of St Lawrence English medium High School) was honoured for securing ninth rank in the Karnataka state in PGCET examination. 

Ashish Alva, son of Alphonse Alva, former vice president of parish pastoral council and Shanti Alva was felicitated for securing eighth rank in the Karnataka state in the second PU Commerce examination held during the first half of 2017.  

In his message, Fr Fred Mascarenhas said that the youth of Moodubelle has a lot of talent that has been manifested in various fields. He appreciated the efforts of the parish priest, assistant parish priest, animators and parishioners for providing various opportunities to the youth to showcase their talents. Fr Fred Mascarenhas complimented Rishal Fernandes and Ashish Alva for their excellent academic achievements and said that they would serve as an example to other youngsters to put in their best efforts and become shining stars of the parish. 

In his presidential address, Fr Clement Mascarenhas congratulated Rishal Fernandes and Ashish Alva and on behalf of the parish wished them well in their future endeavours.  Reshal Fernandes, cultural secretary of the ICYM Moodubelle Unit proposed the vote of thanks and Ceema D’Souza compered the stage programme.

At the end of the stage programme, the ICYM members distributed ‘vorn’ to all the parishioners who were present in the hall. The cultural programme presented by the ICYM, YCS and parishioners comprised of singing, dance and skits.

Shaina Menezes presented a Konkani song where as Vivek Saldanha, Jeswita and Carol presented Hindi songs. The dance programme was presented by YCS and ICYM members as well as members from Holy Family Ward and Lorina and team. A hilarious skit was presented by the members of St John the Baptist I Ward. Another skit depicting the neglect of a mother by her son was presented by the members of St Paul II ward and a skit, a modified version of the ‘Prodigal Son’ was presented by the ICYM members. The cultural programme was anchored by Joy Fernandes and Jevita D’Souza.
