Karkal, Sep 19: A leopard is on the loose at the theme park vicinity. Its presence has created fear among locals. The forest department has put a cage in place  to trap it.

Pet animals have become victims. Many people come for a walk alone early in the morning, and in the evenings at Koti Chennayya theme park and Taluk sports ground here. Only selected workers are employed in the hundreds of acres of land belonging to the department of horticulture. It is difficult to keep an eye on such vast land.

Forest department staff and local councilor Vinnibold Mendonca brought a cage in a jeep with the help of locals and placed it in a marked location.

The leopard has so far killed a pet dog and a cow.
