Mangaluru: KSRTC bus stand to go hi-tech, become more passenger-friendly

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Sept 19: Bus stand of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) here is gearing up to turn hi-tech soon. Once this transformation happens, people will have all information about timings of departure and arrival of buses, where have the buses which have left from other destinations have reached etc at their fingertips.

KSRTC has decided to modernize its bus stand at Bejai in the city by providing instant information to passengers. The people will be able to get all information once Vehicle Tracking and Monitoring System (VTMS) is installed here, and the work of using GPS technology in remaining buses is completed. VTMS system provides information about movement of buses, expected time of arrival here. For this, two huge LED screens would be provided in the bus stand.

It is gathered that 356 out of 570 buses in the city division of KSRTC have already got GPS technology. As passengers will get exact current location of the bus and likely time of arrival, they can relax and attend to other work depending upon the time of arrival. On an experimental basis, GPS has been provided in ten buses which move between the city and Kasargod.

Indeed it is good to know that KSRTC bus stand will go hi-tech, and become more passenger-friendly. However it is expedient that the staff at the inquiry counter and ticket office learn elementary courtesies to passengers. It is my experience that whenever I have gone to the Bijai office to inquire about tickets, bus timings etc. it is observed that there is just a curt response without even a smile by the staff member

Hope this works out as KSRTC does not know the basic information of the cancellation of trips most of the time the passengers search for their buses then complain to the depot officer, he then calls some one and find out that the bus is cancelled what happens to the passengers the person who have selected seat numbers 2- 14 have to adjust in the some other rotten bus for seat numbers 20 -35. The cancellation was done because there was not booking. And the buses have never left on time. But they want to passengers to come on right time or lecture from the driver conductor is free of charge.
