Bengaluru: CM turns tables on BJP, says Centre tapping phones

Bengaluru, Sep 20 (DHNS): Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday accused the BJP-led Centre of tapping phones of Congress leaders in the state.

“It is not the state government, but the Centre that is tapping phones,” Siddaramaiah told reporters, reacting to BJP leader R Ashoka’s allegation that the Congress government had tapped the phones of BJP and JD(S) leaders. “Tapping phones of opposition party leaders is something our government has never done and will never do. But the Centre has been tapping our phones, which the state BJP is not aware of. We haven’t played it up, because it’s a small thing,” he said.

Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy, too, claimed that the Centre had resorted to espionage. “It’s true that the phones of 30-35 Congress leaders are being tapped. It’s been happening for many days,” Reddy said. He, however, refused to name leaders whose phones were under surveillance.

Siddaramaiah

This is not the first time the state Congress is alleging that phones were being tapped. Late last month, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) vice-president Prof B K Chandrashekhar accused that the Centre was using a mobile company to tap phones.

Ashoka dared Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy to institute an inquiry. “The ruling Congress had tapped 162 mobile numbers belonging to BJP and JD(S) leaders. I was a home minister. I have reliable information,” Ashoka said.

“Phones belonging to terrorists or rowdies can be tapped, but there’s no provision to tap phones of politicians. Let there be a departmental inquiry or a CBI probe into this,” he added.

Sachidanand not 4 years but 3 years since Modi came into power. When it comes to wasting and doing nothing, this can only be attributed for Central govt since they have done nothing except blaming the old regime and doing PR for self. This is perhaps the first govt in Indian history that has destroyed economy. If GDP is to be measured as per the earlier yardstick as Raghuram Rajan said, our GDP today is 3.7% and not 5.7% and you are talking about Karnataka govt? Present Karnataka government has been one of the best in the country even as per Centre's reports. For the last 3 years, Karnataka has been in Top-3 position for good governance, has been number one is attracting investments and been second most in realization of MoUs. 1.5 crore households have been getting subsidized food grains and is the only state which has reduced the taxes on petrol by Rs 5. That's why when petrol prices are around 75-80 across country, in Karnataka it's at Rs 71. Which selected community you are talking about freebies? Annabhagya is for all BPL families, so is Ksheerabhagya and many other schemes. If Muslim Maulvis' salary is increased, the salary of the temple priests too is increased twice by this government in the last 4 years. Anganwadi teachers' and helpers' salary in Karnataka is one of the highest in the country except for Delhi. Tell me which community is left out? From October 2 a new scheme of providing nutritious food for all the pregnant women for entire phase of 9 months is being launched. Again this is for all the communities. In villages Asha staff already visit every household and provide the pregnant women with timely medication, check-up etc for the last 2 years. From November 1, a health insurance scheme for every person of the state is being launched, a first-of-its-kind in the country. Everyone is eligible to enroll and get benefits from this insurance scheme at annual payment of mere Rs 300 in rural areas and Rs 700 in urban areas. So which community is left ou
