Goa court notice to police over complaint against minister

Panaji, Oct 6 (IANS): A court in South Goa on Thursday issued notice to two senior police officers after an activist moved it, saying police did not register an FIR against Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai in an alleged cheating case.

Judge B.P. Deshpande sent the notice to Arvind Gawas, Superintendent of Police, South Goa, and a local station house officer, and directed them to submit their responses by October 13.

The complaint filed by lawyer-activist Aires Rodrigues also contains a recorded audio conversation allegedly between the minister and another local activist where Sardesai is heard talking to the latter about illegalities at an industrial estate managed by the Goa Industrial Development Corporation.

Sardesai, a Goa Forward legislator from the Fatorda assembly constituency, has dismissed the allegations made by Rodrigues as bogus.
