Mangaluru, Oct 18: In an incident reported from the city, a person who called the customer of a bank, obtained details of his ATM card and withdrew Rs 99,966 from his account. The caller made the customer believe that he was an officer of a bank and that the details were required to link the ATM card with Adhar card number.

On October 15, a person called the cellphone of Ravi from Kavoor here. The caller, who was speaking in Hindi, introduced himself to be a bank officer. He told Ravi that the bank was in the process of preparing new ATMs and that the cardneeds be linked to Adar card. He sought  details of the ATM.

Ravi gave him the details. After Ravi received OTP numbers on his phone, the man again called him and collected these numbers. Within sometime, Ravi received messages to inform him various debits to his account. The total debit to his account in this way amounted to Rs 99,966. As it was Sunday,he could not contact bank officials.

The same person called Ravi's cellphone at 7.30 am the next day and sought OTP number received in the phone. Ravi's son, who had picked the call, refused to part with the number, saying that thy have lost lot of money already.

The cyber crime police here have registered a case and begun investigation.
