Bengaluru: Hotelier Rajeev Shetty complains against ACP who assaulted him

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (RJP)

Bengaluru, Nov 20: Rajeev Shetty, the owner of Shetty Lunch Home, has filed a complaint with the RT Nagar police, seeking action against Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of JC Nagar, Manjunath Babu, for assaulting him on November 9.

In the complaint, Rajeev has stated that ACP Babu thrashed him badly and threatened to close down the hotel.

But the R T Nagar police said, "Since the case is under departmental inquiry, an FIR cannot be registered. Suitable action will be taken after consulting senior officers."

“I have attached all the relevant documents, including CCTV footage, with the complaint. However, the police are hesitant to file the FIR,” Shetty informed media persons.

"I am scared to commute alone. I do not know what will happen to me. I am spending every day in fear. My family members and I are completely depending on City Police Commissioner T Sunil Kumar for our safety," Shetty informed.

The matter has reached the Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy also. Responding to the incident, Ramalinga Reddy said, "I need to know why the ACP was so angry with the hotel owner and what was the reason to beat him badly. I have instructed the police commissioner to initiate action against the ACP after the inquiry report is submitted."

Shetty was beaten by the ACP on the night of November 9 for reportedly keeping his hotel on Dinnur Main Road open beyond specified time.

After a week of the incident, the video clip went viral on social media and later was published in media.

The city police commissioner ordered a departmental inquiry, under the aegis of DCP (North) Chethan Singh Rathor. The report is yet to come.

First of all, why cant the ACP book the restaurant owner as per the law of the land? Have stick will beat? Don't forget people too can pick up stick and that day will be bad. Routine trouble makers are least bothered about police leave alone fear them & here is a person making a living and getting beaten for that. Such individuals also tarnish the image of the police. Kick him out at once and stop two increments, no further promotions, no retirement benefits. Let him also open a restaurant then. It will be a full cycle.

Horrible,Police dont have the manners at all.Treating people worse than animals.Atleast animals are Protected by law .But not citizens.I dont understand even home minister too ,instead of asking the ACP ,direct first he orders first investigation from Police dpt,and then action.Police will never let down their persons.First ask him direct what was the cause assault a person and immediately take action, suspend him from duty ,never again in police dpt.let him pay a compansation of lac atleast. So can a police shouldnt act towards citizens.Afterall he gets pay from our taxes.SEND HIM TO GERMANY TO OBSERVE HOW POLICE ARE WORKING:These people act just like olden times forest people .Not yet civilized.

** Bangaluru - Real police beat and heat late restaurants & eateries,

Whatever may be the provocation or wrong doing (if at all) from Mr. Rajeev Shetty the ACP can not manhandle / humiliate him in public. ACP deserves suspension from his service.

I do not understand why the Hotel Owner's community is silent. There is a proverb in Tulu. Kallya na badu Bolla gu la barpundu - means the stick that hits the black buffello will also hit the white one. There is a strong Bangalore shetty community in Bangalore and also there are other reputed shettys in Bangalore. Kindly take up this matter seriously and teach a lesson to the erring police personnel.

A police officer has no right to assault any public. Sidhu should intervene and dismiss the erred officer. It should be a lesson to all demons i Khakis.

What departmental inquiry???? Can anyone assault anybody for any reason???? For self-defence, it's ok. but this is not the case here.

Police are goons. they will try to protect their own.

The police in question over here not only should be suspended but also thrown into jail for assault.

I will never trust a police.

Even if there is a video recording of whole day long. Most of the CCTVs doesn't record the voice. So, for sure nobody knows what were the verbal talks between them. However, for any reason, POLICE or ANYBODY has no right to beat anyone.

Beating civilized is condemnable. Keeping his hotel open beyond specified time is not criminal act to beat him!
Strange so many criminals are treated mildly and civilized are treated so harshly!
When we see beatings, recollecting the scene of Mangalore,, when late DySp was mercilessly beating innocent, peace loving, law abiding citizens for peaceful protest.
