Mangaluru: St Aloysius College student bags gold medals in Karate

Mangaluru, Nov 30: Megha H D Shree, a student of St Aloysius College (Autonomous) has achieved laurels at the national level Indian Karate Championship 2017.

Megha is a student of II BCom. She clinched gold in the female colour belts (50-55kg category) at the national level Indian Karate Championship 2017 organized by the Self Defence School of Indian Karate held on November 4 and 5 in the city. She also bagged gold in the female colour belts (50-60kg category) at the 35th Indian Karate Do, a national level championship organized by the Karate Budokan International Organization in Bengaluru between November 25 and 27.

In a short span of five years, the young Aloysian has won laurels in district, state, and national level events. Megha has secured five gold, two silver and two bronze medals at five national level meets held throughout the country. She has also competed in state level meets across ten states.

She attributes her success to her parents and trainer Pratheek U. Pujari. “I had to train rigorously upto eight hours a day for this competition,” she said.

The victor added that relentless practice was the key to her success. “My parents have been extremely supportive as well. In fact, they were the ones that took me to my first class. They have constantly encouraged me to strive on,” she remarked.

Megha wishes to take her passion to the next level and participate in international competitions. “Now that Karate has been included in the Olympic Games, it shall be my next goal,” she said.
