BJP on 'secret' meet with Pakistanis, Modi asked about Nawaz 'biryani'

New Delhi/Ahmedabad, Dec 13 (IANS): The opposition reminded Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday of the 'biryani' served by then Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Lahore in 2015 as the BJP harped on former Prime Minister Manmohan Singhs meeting with Pakistani diplomats.

The Bharatiya Janata Party spoke again about the so-called "secret meeting" between Manmohan Singh and Pakistan's High Commissioner here at Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar's home here on December 6, accusing Congress leaders of having "prem" (love) for Pakistan.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which rules Delhi, hit back. "Modiji, an innocent question: You had relished the biryani offered by your brother Nawaz Sharif. How did it taste?" AAP's Ashutosh asked.

Communist Party of India Marxist General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said: "'Conspiracy' by foreign countries, ‘supari' and other shocking details are being revealed, one by one, by Shri Narendra Modi in Gujarat. Worrisome. Will the Prime Minister of the country act?"

Senior lawyer and activist Prashant Bhushan took a jibe at Modi, saying by such antics Modi had "exposed himself".

"A panic stricken Modi staring at defeat in Gujarat has used a series of bogies of 'Rahul not Hindu', 'Ahmed Patel will become Chief Minister', 'Aiyar called me neech', 'Pakistan wants Congress to win', 'Manmohan Singh ... plotting with Pakistan' to somehow turn the tide."

Another AAP leader, Sanjay Singh, said even Manmohan Singh's worst critics have not questioned his honesty and patriotism.

"Sad that Modi by resorting to such irresponsible statements is giving Pakistan a chance to make fun of us," he said.

Even BJP ally Shiv Sena questioned Modi's raising such issue at election rallies instead of arresting and booking for treason those who attended the meeting at Aiyar's residence.

Modi in his election rallies has alleged that the Congress leaders discussed Gujarat polls with Pakistani diplomats. Manmohan Singh has already rejected the allegations as "canards" and sought an apology from Modi.

Why did he go without an invitation to Lahore?

    This is called poor diplomacy.

Never in the history of India has a P.M stooped so low. I am sure he must've enjoyed eating Biryani in Sharief's house.

    Modi is a mysterious identity!
He entertains both good & bad qualities. No one can trust his intentions on face value.
To serve his own intrigue purposes he would manipulate with enemies disguising himself as a good friend and when noticed that things are not working in his favor he would end with kick on their back and back bite.
He did not leave any body or any subject (cooked stories) to appease people and win their sympathy just for election purpose.
Even Shiv Sena has condemned his ideology. It's Modi's time to reply them appropriately. Why no dumb (courage) and goes after Ex PM Manmohan Singh.
    Shame on him.

Now honestly tell me who is in power ?
    BJP right?
So our Government now headed by that party has the to exercise all diplomatic
Options and formulate a policy. The opposition too is bound to follow. This more so
If the policy is against a hostile terror state like Pakistan.Whatever the internal political difference we should put an United front against the enemy.
The Congress sadly has failed in this front.
Making the former PM a scapegoat and unleashing the foul tongued Mani in Gujarat.
Whatever the stakes no one should stoop to such a low.
    Disgusting.

Political immunity applies to central government staff, not the opposition party. Politicians at that level begin to socialize with diplomatic staff, after office hours. Nobody can put a ban on friendship developing between two individuals whatever their nationality may be. Unless of-course you have solid proof that they hatched conspiracy and put national security at risk. How much ever risk they may have invited, it won't amount to bringing a terror outfit to inspect our airbase - will it ?

Could anybody stop to two sports persons from enemy countries from marrying each other ? Could anybody stop a couple of BJP political personalities from India going to Pakistan and praising Jinnah ?

Well, Our PM is a different case - he has so strong bond with Pakistan that he invites is counterpart for the oath-taking ceremony, takes gifts to his mother and attend a birthday party uninvited - its all brushed off as minor incidents - what do you say ?
