Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jan 18: A photojournalist of a Kannada newspaper from the city was booked by Bantwal town police on the basis of a complaint filed by a citizen on Tuesday January 16.

The photojournalist has been accused of posting religiously provocative matter in a WhatsApp group.

Muneesh Ali, municipal councillor of Bantwal, had complained to the police on Monday, accusing the photojournalist of posting slanderous material relating to a religion in WhatsApp group. The police, who took up the complaint, identified the accused on the basis of cellphone number and registered the case on Tuesday, it is gathered.

Ali had said that the post in a WhatsApp group titled 'Media and Rai Sir' had shown Islam in poor light and spread misgivings about the religion. He claimed that the said post had defamed Islam as a religion and it has the potential of disturbing peace in the society. He therefore had sought strict steps against the concerned.

'Media and Rai Sir' is a WhatsApp group created for coordination between media and district in-charge minister Ramanatha Rai.

The police, who filed first information report, went in search of the photojournalist on Wednesday January 17 night to his residence at Padil here but could not locate him. They are investigating the case.

strict action is required. we also observed that some people are continuously insulting God Sri Ram, which hurt the sentiment of Hindu people but no strict action was taken against this kind of people instead our politician's are sharing stage with this kind of people. this will send wrong message to the general public. we should respect all the religion.

Some of the most communally aggressive and blind people run daily news papers in DK. The hatred which we see now in DK is first planted by these people. Youngsters go and kill each other because their minds are first poisoned by these elements. Politicians may be the next line of people who unleash such actions, but the first credit goes to the News papers.
