Mangaluru: Mumbai police arrest Bajrang Dal activist on charges of abducting girl

Mangaluru, Jan 18: The Mumbai police have arrested a Bajrang Dal activist in the city on charges of kidnapping a girl who had allegedly eloped with a man from another community.

The arrested has been identified as Sunil Pumpwell.

It is learnt that a girl from Mangaluru, who is studying in a college in the city, had allegedly eloped with a man named Iqbal to Mumbai, of which he is a resident.

Alleging 'love Jihad', the girl's family members had brought her back from Mumbai to Mangaluru.

Thereafter, Iqbal approached the Mumbai court and submitted a habeas corpus appeal, alleging that the girl was kidnapped.

Based on Iqbal's complaint, Sunil Pumpwell was arrested on charges of abduction.

Meanwhile, in a Facebook post, the Bajrang Dal allegedly threatened to chop off Iqbal's head for engaging in 'love Jihad'.

    The daring step of mumbai police is highly appreciated. Can karavali police arrest any bajrangis even after strong complaints. Recently there was a complaint about a bajrangi maarwadi from pumpwell who tortured a hindu brother for delaying the private loan repayement and finally that hindu brother suicide. The poor family complaint with all proof but the police never arrested that bajrangi as reported in a tv news.

    This is neither Love Jihad nor true love
    The girl was enrolled into professional course
    The girl might not have been taken care well during childhood
    The parents might have been behind money & property
    She might have found solace in a kind man
    Who might show his kindness to others too
    It is good that the girl was brought back
    The parents should keep a watch on their kids when they grow up
    As they might take a step which might not be good for them
    They do it without thinking of the consequences
    As they are not mature enough to make decisions during teenage
    This has happened in so many cases irrespective of religion
