Bengaluru: Loyola Degree College holds first ever annual athletic meet

Bengaluru, Feb 13: Loyola Degree College held their first ever annual athletic meet for the year 2017-18 at Loyola College grounds. The students of Loyola College commenced the programme with a spectacular march past holding placards highlighting their determination to compete and win.

The ceremony was inaugurated by the chief guest Austin D’ Almeida, sports officer, Vijaya Bank, and presided over by Fr Anil D’Mello, rector of Loyola Institutions and Fr Francis D’Almeida, principal of Loyola Degree College. The meet was declared open The Ekalavya awardee Austin D’ Almeida, followed by a torch relay of student conveners of sports association.

The events for the athletic meet were 800 mts, 400 mts, 200 mts, 100 mts, 4*100 mts relay, shotput, long jump, discus throw and tug of war. Around 140 students participated in the events.There was a surge of adrenaline amidst the participants and roaring enthusiasm among the crowd as they cheered their classmates.



Fr Henry Saldanha, principal of St Joseph Indian PU College presided over the closing ceremony. In his address, he reminded the students that “One may be able to go fastest when alone, but it takes team work to go the farthest.” Principal Fr Francis D’ Almeida, distributed the college colours to the students who have made an outstanding contribution in sports.

The winners of the day were awarded for their respective achievements.The convener of the sports meet Sujai Sebastian, rendered the vote of thanks and thanked everyone for their contribution towards the success of the event.
