Mangaluru: 'Go for Gold’ annual athletic meet held at SJEC

Mangaluru, Feb 15: 'Go for Gold-2018', the annual athletic event of St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Vamanjoor was held at the college ground on Thursday, February 15.

Vandana Shanbhag, Arjuna awardee and former international athlete inaugurated the event by hoisting the flag and releasing the balloons. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, director SJEC, Fr Rohit D’Costa, assistant director, SJEC, Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, principal, SJEC, and Dr Leo D’Souza, vice-principal were present.



Addressing the gathering, Vandana Shanbhag said, “Inaugurating any sport event gives me great pleasure. I am happy to see here a large number of engineers gathered here. I congratulate the college management, staff and students for their spirit in conducting such a big and well organised event. Winning and losing is a part of life. Sports provide spirit to achieve goals in life. Sports keep you fit and healthy. I wish the best for all participants and success of the event."

Fr Wilfred Prakash D Souza, said, “I am very happy to see you all as large as ocean. By the large number of participants, you proved that engineering students are not only disciplined in studies, but can create magic in tracks and jumping pits. Sports are one of the activities which help us to lead a disciplined life. It keeps us physically and mentally fit. I congratulate the students and faculty on this occasion.”

Vandana Shanbhag was felicitated by the management.

A colorful march fast by students was presented. Students who participated in national level sports events were handed over the burning torch to guest.
