Mangaluru: Yakshagana artist Bolara Narayana Shetty remembered

Mangaluru, Feb 22: Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy and Kalagangotri Yakshagana Kendra organised a remembrance programme on renowned Yakshagana artist Bolara Narayana Shetty at Kalagangotri hall, Uchila on Wednesday, February 22.

Aruva Koragappa shetty, senior Yakshagana artist and Rajyotsava awardee inaugurated the programme. A C Bhandari, president, Tulu Yakshagana Academy, Bottikere Purushottama Poonja, M Na Chembaltimar, editor, Kanipura monthly, and Karunakara Shetty were present.

Addressing the gathering, Aruva Koragappa Shetty said, “Bolara Narayana Shetty created his own style in Yakshagana. He was one of the most adorable artists. I have never seen an artist like him till date. I acted with him in many Yakshagana events. Being a master of Yakshagana, he lived a very simple life. He was busy with his habit of teaching Yakshagana to youngsters till his death. His character 'Koti' in 'Koti Chennayya' was one of the best and is still alive in the minds of people."

U Sathish, president, Kalagangotri, welcomed the gathering. Taranath Gatty, member, Tulu Sahitya Academy did the introductory speech. Jayananda Gatty compered the programme.
