Mangaluru, Feb 22: Professional photographers of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi under South Kanara Photographers Association (SKPA) submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner, seeking government facilities and justice in profession.

After submitting the memorandum, Wilson Gonsalves, president, SKPA said, "Thousands of professional photographers operate in the district. Through photography, they take care of their families. This profession is one of the best solutions to tackle the problem of unemployment in the district. Acting as a mediator between various government sectors and public, our profession plays a vital role. But at present, photographers of the district are facing a number of problems. So seeking immediate solution for many issues, we submitted a memorandum to the DC, police commissioner and superintendent of police. We expect the government to help us.”

Some of the major demands of the memorandum are:

• The government should approve identity cards for photographers given by SKPA
• The government should distribute cameras to poor photographers, on recommendation of SKPA
• Two photographers each from both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi should be awarded Rajyotsava awards every year
• Need to form a photographers’ academy on national level
• The responsibility of photography of government programmes should be given to the professional photographers of the area
• Need to take necessary steps on bank loans for photographers without many formalities and also give concession on police checking when photographers shows their IDs given by SKPA
