Reveal list of those whose NPAs have been written off: CPI-M

Reveal list of those whose NPAs have been written off: CPI-MThrissur (Kerala), Feb 22 (IANS): The CPI-M on Thursday demanded that the Central government make public the list of persons whose outstanding bank loans, or non-performing assets, to public sector banks, spanning oRs 2.40 lakh crore had been written off.

Communist Party of India-Marxist General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should immediately reveal the list.

"Modi is not addressing the real issues but concentrating on other things. We demand that he come out with the list of beneficiaries, whose NPAs totalling Rs 2.40 lakh crore have been written off. We also demand that the Prime Minister reveal the list of those accompanying him on foreign trips," Yechury said while inaugurating the 22nd state party conference here.

He also emphasised the need to oust the BJP-led Central government adding that it can be achieved through pooling of maximum number of anti-BJP forces.

Taking a dig at the Prime Minister, the CPI-M chief said: "During United Progressive Alliance rule, Modi used to call then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as 'Mounmohan Singh'. What has happened today? Modi has now become 'Mounendra Modi'."

Lashing out at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Yechury claimed the organisation had "taken complete control of democratic institutions".

"Each and every institution and different posts, including those of President, Vice President, Election Commission, and Vice Chancellors. Even the judiciary has not been spared."

He also accused the RSS of unleashing political violence in Kerala, and said CPI-M's policy is not to engage in violence.

"Violence is not our culture at all. But when our cadres are attacked, we engage in self-defence. But when aberrations do take place, we carry out corrections. So far, 577 of our cadres have been killed in Kerala," he said.

Yechury also said that the Indian media had been intimidated and the only narrative in circulation was the "narrative of Modi".

"What is needed at present is not choosing between Modi or (Congress chief) Rahul Gandhi. We have to choose policy alternatives which helps the country progress," he said.

Earlier, veteran Communist and former Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan hoisted the party flag to formally begin the four-day CPI-M conference's proceedings.
