Mangaluru: SAC holds national conference on Food Processing and Engineering

Mangaluru, Mar 9: The DDU Kaushal Kendra, a UGC approved skill-based job-oriented programme centre at St Aloysius College (autonomous) organized a national conference on Recent Innovation in Food Processing and Engineering recently.

Dr Richard Gonsalves, vice-principal and director of DDU Kaushal Kendra welcomed the gathering. Dr M Gangadhara Nayak, director, Directorate of Cashew Research, Indian Council of Agriculture Research, Puttur, inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp in the presence of Fr Praveen Martis, principal St Aloysius College; guest of honor, Dr Harshvardhan Batra, former director, Defence Food Research Laboratory, Defence Research Development Organization, Mysuru, Shashi Kumar, CEO and managing director of Akshayakalpa Foods Pvt Ltd and Dr Adarsha Gowda, convener of National Recent Innovation in Food Processing Industries along with Neena Rodriques and Jenissa Cinora D'Souza, organizing secretary.



In his inaugural address Dr M Gangadhara Nayak raised the concern of Innovation should reach the farmers. He urged the government to provide more finance for infrastructure development rather than giving food subsidy to the farmers.

Dr Harshvardhan Batra, former director, Defence Food Research Laboratory, Defence Research Development Organization, Mysuru, urged the audience to rethink to involve on quality of Food Research and Innovation.

An informative Message has been given by Shashi Kumar, CEO and managing director of Akshayakalpa Foods Pvt Ltd about the challenges to be face in the field organic foods and their importance for the near future.

The vote of thanks was rendered by Dr Adarsha Gowda, convenor of the national conference.
