Mangaluru: Bertrand Russell School bags ‘Best Consumer Club’ award

Mangaluru, Mar 15: Bertrand Russell English Medium High School has bagged the ‘Best Consumer Club’ award for the year 2018 in the district.

The award was handed over to the school on Thursday, March 15 at Nethravathi auditorium zilla panchayat Kottara. The district administration, D K district, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department, District Legal Services Authority in association with District Consumer Information Centre observed ‘World Consumer Day’ on March 15. On this occasion, the school received ‘Best Consumer Club ‘award for the fourth consecutive year. Senior civil judge of District Legal Services Authority Mallana Gowda handed over the prize to the students.



The programme was inaugurated by M R Ravi, chief executive officer of zilla panchayat, Mangaluru. Inaugurating the function, Ravi said, “The consumer movement should start from the students. Within four walls of the school, we cannot create awareness among the students. Students should come out from the four walls of the classroom and should know about their rights. He also said that there should be curriculum in the school which should contain about consumerism. He requested the District Consumer Federation to approach the government about it.” The president of D K District Consumer Redressal Forum Vishweshwara Bhat also enlightened the gathering about consumer rights and duties.

Professor of Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology, Puttur Dr Shekar S Aiyar, president of D K District Consumer Federation M J Salian and members of the District Consumer Federation, principals of different colleges and students of different schools and colleges were present. Different judgements pronounced recently by D K District Consumer Redressal Forum was translated into Kannada by the consumer club members of Bertrand Russell English Medium School which was prepared in a booklet was released on this occasion. Kairunnisa, co-ordinator of the consumer club of the Bertrand Russell School received the ‘Best Co-ordinator’ award. Sub-coordinator Usha was also congratulated on the occasion.
