Udupi, Mar 17: Seers of Udupi Ashta Math held a closed-door meeting and discussed the alleged false accusations made by the seer of Shiroor Math that has been doing rounds on social media. The meeting was held at Krishna Math on the late night of Thursday, March 15.

Except seer of Puttige Math who was not in Udupi, other six seers and two junior seers participated in the meeting. Since it was a serious issue, Pejawar Math seer Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji, who was taking rest in Bengaluru, rushed to Udupi following the key meeting and joined the other seers.

Seers arriving for the meeting

The meeting was held under the leadership of Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji. Senior seers of six maths including Palimar Kaniyoor , Krishnapura, Adamaru and junior seers of Sodhe and Pejawar held serious discussions regarding allegations and decided to take suitable action against Sri Lakshmivara Theertha Swamiji of Shiroor Math. The meeting continued till 12.30 in the night.

No information was given to press with regards to the discussion that took place in the meeting. The media was informed that the details would be given sometime in the future.

It is learnt from reliable sources that the seers unanimously agreed that the allegations made by Shiroor seer are against the reality. They also discussed with regards to the necessary legal steps to be taken to find a solution to the issue.

It may be recalled that Sri Lakshmivara Theertha Swamiji of Shiroor Math, who recently announced his decision to contest the Assembly elections this time, on Tuesday, March 13 hit out at a Kannada TV channel for airing a fake video which claimed that that he had made 'explosive revelations' about the Ashta Maths.

The channel aired a video claiming that Shiroor Swamiji had 'revealed' that all the venerated Swamijis of Ashta Maths had 'children' and that 'murders' had taken place in the premises of Sri Krishna Temple.

Slamming the channel, Shiroor Swamiji said that the video was fake and that someone had played mischief by imitating his voice. He also said that the video was old.

Shiroor swamiji should not accuse swamiji's of other matha's. If he wants to leave sanyasa, He should do gracefully just like Shri Vidyabhushana swamiji of Subramanya matha did few years ago to pursue his profession in Carnatic Bhakti Singing.

The swamijis of krishna matha are influential only in Udupi city and not in the entire state. Their speech will not effect anyone politically.

Religion has never been static, it is dynamic and has been evolving for thousands of years whereas dynasties have risen and have bit the dust world-wide. Turmoil in a major religion can be healthy, these seers are the religious philosophers and thinkers, they are no ordinary citizens like rest of us. Religion like politics is an entity by itself and we become part of it due to our own convictions. Let us take a deep breath, let these seers sort it out.
