Modi government caused Rs 40,000 cr loss in Rafale deal: Rahul

New Delhi, Mar 20 (IANS): Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday accused the Narendra Modi government of causing over Rs 40,000 crore loss to exchequer in the purchase of Rafale fighter aircraft from France.

In a tweet, Gandhi also referred to Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's reported remarks that there was no point of talking about "our price" and "your price" when fighter planes were not bought during the term of Congress-led UPA government.

"The UPA negotiates the RAFALE down to 526 Cr. per plane. But Modi ji pays 1,670 Cr. instead. Loss to exchequer, over 40,000 Cr. RM's response? We paid 'our' price. Who cares about 'their' price? Answer: The PEOPLE care."

The Congress has been long alleging that the deal for 36 Rafale fighter planes with the French government was finalised by the Modi government at a higher price than the previous deal for 126 medium multi-role combat aircraft (MMRCA) negotiated by the UPA government.

The figures are real and all in public domain with appropriate evidencing. If anyone wants to know what what price UPA negotiated and approved upon, it is all there in writing. It is also there for Modi Govt.

Yet, the media loves to act like it is not a SCAM. It is a scam of the century.

A quick google got me this answer,

12 Billion was the quoted price of 126 Rafale in 2008 which escalated to 20 Billion by 2014 when Congress shortlisted the fighter and that too (no weapons package, no replenishment and recovery base, no warehouse, no guarantee on supplies and availability etc).

Current 7.8 Billion for 36 Rafale consists of below :

    maintenance for 10 years
    attrition compensation
    75% availability
    meteor BVR, SCALP missile
    AESA radar
    Engine upgrade, without mileage loss
    Sand ingestion damage handling
    Updated weapon load
50% offset, meaning 3.9 billion to be invested back in India.

When the G-to-G deal was opened by Modi and Hollande, French opened up with a price of 12 Billion for 36 rafales, It was cut down to 8.6 Billion by the Indian government, a further cut was asked by defense ministers and the price was fixed at 7.8 billion.

People need to understand that UPA was simply buying 126 rafale for 20 billion without any weapons package which when added up takes the number to some 36 Billion.

Don't you think Rahul Gandhi knows this?? he does. he just wants to throw mud at the wall and hope that it sticks. But I won't blames him for doing this because all politicians do this.

If a lie is told a thousand times, its bound to be believed by someone. And in a country with average IQ of 83, it works wonders.

Some might think that I am bakht... for bringing up facts. Actually, i am not... and I am critical of Modi govt, in their handling of some of the issues. There are many issues that are a low hanging fruit for criticizing Modi govt...... but this rafale deal is not one among them.

Stellar example of crony capitalism. While Mukesh Ambani has a stake in Dassault, Anil owns Reliance Defense, a company came into existence only to snatch the Rafale deal from HAL.
Best joke is, 36 Rafale jets were purchased off the shelf on Emergency basis as per our Madame Defense and not a single has landed in India so far, time to redefine 'Emergency'.
All said and done, Na Khawoonga na Khilawoonga still defended under the pretext of national security!

Defence procurement is different from purchasing a car from a local showroom.

Beowulf, thanks for redefining 'Emergency purchase'.
Just go through April 11th 2015 Indian Express where Subramanian Swamy calls Rafale deal, a corrupt deal, it would bring bad name to his party, Rafale is worst aircraft in the world, Dassault would've closed the shop if not for Indian deal as there was no demand for their jets. He also had threatened to take legal recourse had his government gone ahead with the deal. After all this hue and cry, all of a sudden he became silent, why? Does Indian partner of the deal have anything to do with it?

Madame, You and we all know RG is making a fool of himself. Even his die hard chelas know that . If the amount is so huge, Rahul can file a case and expose the Govt with full back up evidence. Like Subramnya Swamy did, both RG and SG were almost jailed and are now on bail. RGs lawyers may be capable of doing this. Only then public will take RG seriously, If not this would just another usual ranting without any substance. The 22 state losses , 32 election defeats and UP bypoll election deposit losses, is good enough for anyone to realize this.

At least can you answer which one is better!, 12 billion dollars for 126 planes or 8 billion dollars for 36 imported planes!?. And in defense related matters, RG or anyone cannot file a case in any court as its related to a sensitive area!. When his government comes then he can file a case against the people responsible!.
