Mangaluru, Mar 21: Milagres College held its college day at its premises on Tuesday, March 21.

Dr Edmond Fernandes, chief executive officer, CHD Group, was present as chief guest. Fr Valerian D’Souza presided over the programme. Fr Michael Santhumayor, principal, Fr Maxim D’Souza, assistant principal, Cycilia Pereira, vice-president, parish council, Milagres Church were present.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Edmond said, "We cannot judge a person on the basis of certificates secured in school. While education based on text books is very essential, moral values and the behavior of a person makes him more powerful than an educated person. Of course, degrees are required for a profession, but without humanity, service mentality and social concern, there is no meaning in education.

“Students of Milagres College are known for discipline and academic excellence. I heard that through NSS, students are actively participating in social service. All I can say is that, this will help in your future. You need to be more and more concerned about society,” he said.

In his presidential address, Fr Valerian said, "Our students are the reason for our college to gain popularity academically and also in extracurricular activities. Our students succeeded to secure ranks and awards. Today, through this college day, we are celebrating our success and happiness. It is a platform for all of you students to show your talents and appreciate each other. I wish a bright future for outgoing students of our college and congratulate all who will showcase their talents on this stage.”

The management felicitated Dr Mamatha, who was awarded as ‘Best NSS programme officer’ by the state government recently.

After the stage programme, cultural activities were presented by students.
