Bengaluru, Apr 21: Former BJP MLA Belur Gopalakrishna has decided to join Congress in a day after meeting chief minister Siddaramaiah and Congress general secretary in charge of Karnataka K C Venugopal on Saturday, April 21.

Gopalakrishna had tried to get BJP ticket from Sagar constituency. But former minister Hartalu Halappa was given the ticket recently. Then it was said that Gopalakrishna will contest as an independent from Sagar constituency.

In 2004 and 2008, Gopalakrishna had contested from BJP and defeated present minister Kagodu Thimmappa. In 2013, he had contested under JD(S) ticket and lost.

As Belur Gopalakrishna hails from Shivamogga district, the home turf of BJP state chief Yeddyurappa, this development has come as a morale booster for Siddaramaiah.
